How to Obliterate Financial Shame
A few years back I did a favor for a colleague who has a very large (e.g. 300,000+) marketing audience. It was shortly after the economy tanked big time, and literally tens of thousands of people on this list were teetering on the verge of bankruptcy…
My colleague asked me to do something I had never really done before: He wanted me to come totally clean about the near-financial-bankruptcy Sharon and I went through in 2003. (Right after making the biggest mistake of our careers… opening a gigantic research facility in the NYC area just before 9/11!) He asked the very, very tough questions, and Sharon and I bared our souls about what it was like to be two “brilliant business shrinks” who just lost $2,000,000 we never had in the first place… and then, thankfully, took us through the story of our recovery. (The Phoenix did rise!)
The call wasn’t for coaches in particular, but I can’t tell you how many times people have come up to me in seminars to profusely thank me for doing it. At least 100 people said it dramatically changed the course of their lives, because if people like us could go through something like this, then they just didn’t feel so shameful about what they were going through…
It gave them the strength to recover financially, emotionally, and in many cases even physically. (It’s common to let your self-care deteriorate during extreme financial stress)
Anyway, after the first thousand COACHES (and prospective coaches) or so got onto my list, I realized there were STILL a lot of people out there suffering…
So I wanted to share this call with you to tell our story…
The good, the bad, and the ugly…
I thought, perhaps it might inspire you too.
